Lohman Turkey Call, gun mounted$10
The below photo was taken less than 18 feet from these birds (on my back porch). I could call them in any time of the year, which might seem odd, but I could.
All photos were taken by me at my ranch in the Raton Pass (Colorado side). And these big boys and girls aren't just any silly bunch of turkeys, they are smart. I can call them in any time of the year. At first I used the Lohman's call, but then I mastered calling them without it. Yep, you read that right...I learned to gobble, cluck, yelp, etc like a pro. But one time Roger H and a friend came to hunt during Turkey season, and they didn't see as much as a feather or hear as much as a chirp from any of my forest pals. Too bad, because all these turkeys are the huge and most beautiful turkeys called the Merriam's. I couldn't help but laugh when an hour after Roger left my place that the old boys came out strutting their stuff, and I swear giggling at how they eluded Roger and friend. If my old friend Roger H sees these, I hope he enjoys. And for a real treat (just because I can do this) I encourage you to click on the below two links for two happy snaps that should make all you gobbler hunters drool. This one guaranteed to torque your gobbling tongue A final note: I have never baited any wildlife. It's unethical and I don't believe it in. To hear the many different sounds of turkeys go to the National Wild Turkey Federation Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoyed the photos. I have hundreds of them. |
